CM to Inaugurate Patna Book Fair on December 7
Patna: Nov. 18, 2007
With Durga Puja, Diwali, and Chhath now over in the state, the district administration in Patna is turning its attention to yet another much-anticipated annual event in the city that continues to grow bigger and bigger with the passing of each year.
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar will be inaugurating the 12-day Patna Book Fair at Gandhi Maidan that promises to feature over 20 lakh books of authors both from India and abroad and produced by over 12,000 publishing houses.
Fair officials A. K. Jha, at a press conference in Patna on Sunday, said this year the fair would include nearly 550 book stalls, nearly 20 percent more than last year in an area covering approximately 1.6 lakh square feet.
The fair with a theme of 'Bihar's Youths: Dreams and Directions' would open on December 7 with an inauguration by the Chief Minister at 3:00 pm and would run until Dec. 18, president of the fair Ratneshwar said.
Besides books, the fair would also feature cultural shows including classical songs and short plays, he said.
Many new programs including 'Know your University' and 'Bioscope' featuring documentary films made by noted film-makers, are also being introduced this year, Jha said.
As before, students with valid school IDs would be allowed free access to the fair, he said.
Fee to enter the fair for general public will remain Rs. 5, officials said.
