5 New Medical Colleges to Start Operating from 2008; Says Health Minister

Photo by Shashi UttamState Health Minister Chandramohan Rai, while presenting his yearly departmental progress report in Patna on Sunday, said that after the Patna Medical College Hospital (PMCH), the government was now concentrating on improving the conditions of Nalanda and Darbhanga medical colleges where conditions remained less than satisfactory when it came to general medical care.

Providing a glimpse of the future plans of the medical department, Rai said that four government and one private medical colleges were expected to be opened sometimes next year including one each in Pawapuri, Madhepura, Bettiah, Sasaram, and another within the Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences premises in Patna.

Rai further said that the government was in the process of converting the existing 100 primary care centers scattered around the state into full-fledged referral hospitals with a capacity of 30-beds each.
