No Repeat of Nandigram in Bihar: CM
Patna: Nov. 19, 2007
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, at a press conference in Patna on Monday, while ruling out forcible acquisition of lands for developmental projects to avoid a Nandigram-like situation in Bihar, lashed out at the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) president Lalu Prasad Yadav and Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) chief Ram Vilas Paswan for playing 'dirty politics' with the future of the state.
"The Railway Minister and Paswan are running around spreading rumors that the Bihar government is not providing lands for various projects. Ironically, it was the RJD leaders and activists who, just a few weeks ago, were organizing protests shouting 'we will lay our lives but will not give up our lands'. So why are they now accusing us of not making lands available for these projects," Kumar asked.
Talking about the Central Steel Minister, the Chief Minister said Paswan was raising up the issue of NIPER whenever he got a chance. "Before he accuses us of not providing land for NIPER, don't you think he has a responsibility to clarify what kind of Central-State partnership he has in mind?" he said.
"We have provided lands for various railway projects but Lalu Prasad Yadav is too busy doing politics in Patna instead of doing his job in New Delhi. Digha railway bridge is moving at a snail's place, doubling up of railway lines between Muzaffarpur-Sitamarhi, Rajgir-Gaya, and Daniawan-Biharsharif is not moving at all, trains are filthy and without water and electricity. Why doesn't the Railway Minister take care of these problems first instead of always shouting about not getting lands in Bihar?" the Chief Minister demanded to know.
