Ramshila Rath Yatra to Protest against Sethusamudram Project
Patna: Nov. 20, 2007
Activists opposing the demolition of the mythical Ram Setu under the banner of Rameshwaram Ram Setu Raksha Manch, in Patna on Tuesday, flagged off the temple-shaped 'Ramshila Rath Yatra' from Mahavir Temple to protest against the Central government's plan to build the Sethusamudram Canal project between India and Sri Lanka.
The chariot would go to each nook and corner of the state capital by December 10 to muster support for the opposition of the project, program coordinator Prof. Nand Kishore Pandey said.
"The Central government, as part of a conspiracy hatched against the Hindus, is determined to tear down the historical Ram Setu which is an integral part of the Hindu religion. Those of us who believe in Lord Ram, however, will not allow the UPA government to succeed in its devious plan and will oppose it with all might," Pandey said.
VHP leaders Dr. Prakash Charan and Dr. S. N. Arya, Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Ganga Prasad, and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) publicist Anil Thakur were also present on the occasion.
