Telephone Employee Shot Dead in Patna

Patna: Nov. 21, 2007

Criminals in Patna on Wednesday morning shot and killed a telephone department employee as he and his son-in-law returned to their home in Gardanibagh after arriving at Patna Junction from New Delhi, the police said.

As reported, 58-year old Shambhunath Bhagat, a cancer patient, had just got off the Sampoorna Kranti Express after undergoing cancer treatment in New Delhi. He was accompanied by his son-in-law Premnath Rakesh.

On their way to their home, two youths on motorcycles approached them near Mithapur and demanded their mobile phones. When Bhagat refused to part with his phone, one of the criminals pulled out a gun and shot him from a close range.

Bhagat was rushed to the Patna Medical College Hospital (PMCH) where he was declared dead on arrival.

Based on Rakesh' statements, an FIR was filed with the Jakkanpur police station.

Police are investigating the case from various angles including random robbery attempt and old rivalry, Jakkanpur police station in-charge J. P. Rai said.
