RJD Desperate to Foment Communal Trouble: Say Ministers

Patna: Nov. 22, 2007

Minority Welfare Minister Dr. Monazir Hasan. Phot by Shashi UttamBuilding Construction Minister Dr. Monazir Hasan, during a press conference in Patna on Thursday, said the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), nervous by the developments under the NDA rule in Bihar, was doing everything in its might to disturb communal harmony in the state while continuing to pose hurdles in the way of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.

"Both Lalu Prasad Yadav and his entire party now stands exposed of hypocrisy and lying in view of their recent unfounded charges against the Nitish government in the Reshma murder case and the Aurangzeb case in Bhagalpur. In both cases, the RJD leaders, including the party chief and Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav, did everything to fan trouble by trying to paint them with communal brushes," the minister said.

"The entire state knows how close the RJD leaders are with Anil Sharma, the chief accused in the killing of Reshma, but now these same people are running scared to hide their relationship with the builder and making ridiculous statements to save their own skins," Dr. Hasan said.

The Minister also accused the previous Lalu-Rabri government of defrauding the Muslims of Bihar while continuing to pretend to be their friend and well-wisher.

"Chief Minister Nitish Kumar wasted no time in providing justice to the Bhagalpur riot victims. He also got the Haj Building completed; got hostels for minority students built, and ordered fencing of the cemeteries across the state to prevent any possible communal uprising. All these measures have sent a shockwave among the RJD leaders who had, for long 15 years, taken the Muslims for granted," the Building Construction Minister said.

Hasan's sentiments were echoed by the Minority Welfare Minister Manzar Alam, who in a separate press meet on Thursday, accused RJD leaders Lalu Prasad Yadav, Abdul Bari Siddiqui, Shyam Rajak, and Shakeel Ahmed Khan of adding 'Khatoon' to the last name of Reshma to give it a communal color.

"These people had hoped that by cleverly giving Reshma a Muslim name, they would succeed in their evil plan of causing communal unrest in the state. Thankfully, the truth came out and now these people are doing everything to change their statements while planning their next move that could embarrass the Chief Minister and cause Hindu-Muslim strife in Bihar," Alam said.

Others present at the press conference included State Minority Commission president Naushad Ahmed, Bihar Urdu Academy Vice President Abdul Wahid Ansari, and other Muslim representatives.
