Naxals Intended to Cause 'Unprecedented' Damage to Patna
Patna: Nov. 23, 2007
Officials in Patna on Friday, following the arrests of two hardcore ultras and the recovery of a large reserve of explosives from a house near Kumhrar on Thursday, said the Maoists in Bihar were planning attacks on state buildings of an unprecedented magnitude with Patna Secretariat, State Assembly building, Beur Jail, Police Headquarters, Gandhi Setu, and Koilwar Bridge in their crosshair.
The chilling revelation came after the police grilled the two criminals Lalbabu Sahni and Bhaskarji for hours extracting minute details of their plans just days before they were to be put in actions.
"These people were just days away from unleashing a kind of terror that Bihar has never seen before. With other members of the militant outfit reaching Patna to give their plan the last minute review, it was only due to the hard work of the Bihar police and the Special Task Force that their evil plan was foiled before any damage was done," said the Director General of Police (DGP) Ashish Ranjan Sinha.
Meanwhile, raids are being conducted in various parts of Bihar to destroy the terrorist network led by Sahni and others.
The two ultras will be presented before a court on Saturday before being sent to the Beur Jail, officials said.
