Government to Encourage Mini Dairy Farm

Patna: Nov. 25, 2007

Encouraged by the smashing success of the Bihar State Co-operative Milk Producer’s Federation Ltd. (COMFED), the state government has decided to offer loans on easy terms for a maximum of Rs. 1 lakh to the farmers who wish to set up mini dairy plant in Bihar, officials in Patna said on Sunday.

Besides the Rs. 1 lakh loan, the participants would also receive a stipend of Rs. 20,000 for the upkeep of five top-class cows that they would be able to purchase from the loan amount.

The only catch, or more accurately, prerequisite to qualify for the loan would be to first learn the techniques of setting up and managing mini-dairy farms from a recognized dairy institute, officials said.

The government is also preparing to set up a training program at the cost of Rs. 25 lakh that would be able to train up to 845 prospective dairy farmers.
