JD-U Charges Lalu of Twisting Facts
Patna: Nov. 25, 2007
Deflecting charges hurled by the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) president and Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav against the Janata Dal (U) leadership on Bhagalpur riot issue, JD-U state president Rajiv Ranjan refuted Yadav's assertion that Kameshwar Yadav, the chief accused in the Bhagalpur riot case, was fielded in the state election by the VHP.
"Kameshwar Yadav was an independent candidate in 1990 and not a VHP protégé as suggested by Lalu Prasad. Why does not the Railway Minister come clean and tell the people that it was he who embraced Kameshwar Yadav for more than 15 years in an attempt to protect him from the long arms of the law?" Singh, also known as Lallan Singh, said at a press conference in Patna on Sunday.
"The truth remains that it was under the RJD rule that the Bhagalpur riot chief accused was honored instead of being brought to justice and no amount of spinning could change that fact," he said.
Earlier, more than 300 members of the Rangrez Jagaran Manch joined the JD-U.
"After many years, the minorities are feeling safe under the leadership of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. He has earned the respect of the Muslims and that is why more and more Muslims are getting attracted towards the JD-U," said party national secretary Javed Reza.
