Photo by Shashi UttamState Health Minister Chandramohan Rai, at a function organized at Rajvanshi Nagar Hospital in Patna on Wednesday, said the state would soon get a grip on Filaria, a disease caused by mosquito bite, by administering anti-filarial drugs to over 7 crore people in Bihar.

Rai launched the anti-filaria program by administering the drug on him saying he hoped others would follow his lead.

In his speech, the minister said over 18 crore anti-filarial drug in all districts were made available by the state government and if the patients followed the recommended plan, the disease could be successfully cured in 5-10 years.

The Health Minister recommended application of the anti-filarial drug on children at age 2 while admonishing the patients to consult their doctors before actually going on the drug.

He also warned of some side effects of the drug particularly among children and pregnant women though, he said, most side effects usually do not last more than a few days.

Others present at the function included Civil Surgeon Dr. Pranav Kumar, state Filaria officer Dr. Y. N. Pathak, noted physicians Dr. Naresh Bhimsaria, and Dr. H. N. Diwakar.
