RJD Denies Ties with Bhagalpur Riot Mastermind Kameshwar Yadav
Patna: Nov. 28, 2007
Irked by the Janata Dal (U)'s assertion that Kameshwar Yadav, the chief accused in the 1989 Bhagalpur riot who was given life imprisonment by a Bhagalpur court on Tuesday, was a key member of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), RJD leaders in Bhagalpur, on Thursday challenged the JD-U to prove its allegations or quit making false charges.
Youth RJD president in Bhagalpur Satish Paswan, at a press conference, categorically denied the party had nothing to do with Kameshwar Yadav, now or ever before, and any attempt to link him with the RJD was based on lies and innuendo.
"We dare the JD-U to prove that Yadav was getting protection from the RJD or RJD leaders were involved in honoring him at the Sonepur Fair. This is clearly a campaign by the NDA leaders to malign the RJD but we will not going to take it lying down. If charges are not withdrawn immediately, we will launch a statewide stir to expose the JD-U," Paswan said.
The RJD leader further said that Yadav was still a member of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and has close ties with some Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders.
