Pillai, the New Chief Secretary of Bihar

With Bihar's Chief Secretary Ashok Kumar Chowdhary's term coming to an end with his retirement on Friday, 1973 batch IAS and Tamil Nadu native R. J. M. Pillai, on Thursday, was named his successor while S. Vijayraghawan assumes responsibilities in his new role as the Development Commissioner, officials in Patna said.
Like Pillai, Vijayraghawan, who served in the Bihar government as the Industrial Developent Commissioner, is also a 1973 batch IAS from Tamil Nadu.
Chowdhary, who was earlier scheduled to retire from public service last September, was given a three-month extension at the behest of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.
Pillai, after receiving the notification of change in his status, met with Governor R. S. Gavai at the Raj Bhawan and presented his credentials.
While Pillai is scheduled to retire in November 2009, Raghawan would retire in May of 2009.
Among other changes in the bureaucratic structure, Road Construction secretary Raj Kumar Singh was made the Industrial Development Commissioner while Transport Department secretary M. M. Singh was made the joint chairperson-cum-managing director of the Bihar State Housing Board.
