CM Goes to the Town to Review Developmental Works
Patna: Nov. 30, 2007
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, accompanied by the top government officials on Friday took a trip of the state capital to review development works as part of the government's attempt to beautify the city and reduce traffic gridlock that plagues Patna like no other city in the nation.
At around 2:00 pm the Chief Minister's motorcade left his house at 1 Anne Marg and arrived at the Dak Bungalow Road where earlier in the day more than 5,000 protestors clashed with the police forcing the police to take measures like lobbing tear gas and deploying water cannon.
While attempts to restore normalcy on the Dak Bungalow crossing were made before the arrival of the Chief Minister, there were plenty of signs indicating the place was a virtual battlefield just a few hours ago.
From Dak Bungalow Road, Kumar's convoy arrived at the Gandhi Maidan-Exhibition Road intersection where he talked to the officials about building a roundabout with a life-size statue of Mauritius first Prime Minister Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam in it. He also talked about looking into the possibilities of widening the entire Exhibition Road before moving to the Golghar area.
After covering Rajapur Bridge, Boring Canal Road, and Hartali Chowk, the Chief Minister returned to his residence to continue talks with various department chiefs including the Road Construction Department, the Energy Department, PHED, Electricity Board, Telephone Department, Religious Committee, and Urban Development Department.
Kumar also directed the authorities to take on the spot decision to remove any hurdle in the path of widening of the roads or relocating businesses if they came in the path of the development.
