Raid in Bakerganj Shop Nets over Rs. 5 Lakh in Pirated CDs

Patna: Nov. 30, 2007

The police in Patna under Pirbahore police station on Friday raided an electronic shop in Bakerganj Gola and seized pirated CDs, DVDs, and VCDs of Hindi and Bhojpuri films and X-rated videos worth over Rs. 5 lakh, Pirbahore police station in-charge Nissar Ahmed said.

Acting on an anonymous tip, a Pirbahore police team raided the shop with no name and recovered a room-full of pirated films and arrested its employee Sunil Sah.

The shop owner Bhola Prasad, however, managed to give a slip to the police and escaped, officials said.

Such raids have become quite common in Patna, particularly in the electronic market of Bakerganj where every 2-3 months, the police raids the shops, recovers illegal videos and software, and arrests some employees but that has not deterred the owners from resurfacing after cooling off for a few days.

Possible collusion of Patna police in the piracy business has not been ruled out by the senior officials.
