Bank Manager Arrested for Sheltering Killer Son
Patna: Oct. 6, 2007
The police in Patna on Saturday arrested 58-year old Devendra Prasad Singh, a State Bank of India manager and the father of the alleged killer of Barauni Refinery senior engineer P. Chakravarty, on charges of providing shelter to his son Raman Singh, a notorious criminal wanted in a number of armed robberies in Begusarai district.
Chakravarty, a senior engineer in the Indian Oil Corporation, was killed during a robbery attempt on September 23, 2000. Since then the police had been hunting for Raman and his gang members.
With the arrest of Raman's father, authorities are hoping to soon catch up with his son, Shastri Nagar police station in-charge Kamod Prasad, who led the raid at the Bailey Road branch of the State Bank of India, said.
Begusarai police has taken Singh into its custody and has taken him back to Begusarai for further interrogation that may lead to Raman's arrest who is accused in over two dozen cases of armed robberies and a number of murders in Begusarai, Hazaribagh, and Ranchi districts.
Singh, however, denies sheltering Raman saying his family had no contact with him for years and he had nothing to do with the case.
