Fernandes Says he was Misquoted
Patna: Oct. 8, 2007
Senior Janata Dal (U) leader and NDA convener George Fernandes, less than 24 hours after he said, or at least what most people understood he said, that the NDA government in Bihar should have collapsed by now, denied he was making reference to the JD-U but he was in fact referring to the Congress-led UPA government at the center.
In a fax letter sent from Delhi to most media outlets in Bihar, Fernandes said his mind is always preoccupied with politics at the Center and when he said that this government should have collapsed long time ago, he was referring to the UPA government, and not the NDA government in Bihar as reported in the media.
Interestingly, before Fernandes' denial arrived at media offices, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, during his weekly Janata Darbar in Patna on Monday, refused to comment on the issue saying Mr. Fernandes was a very senior leader and while he could not get inside his mind, he was certain there was some confusion as to the disparaging statements made by Fernandes as reported in the media.
