Lovely Anand Gets Bail in DM Lynching Case
Patna: Oct. 9, 2007
A jam-packed Patna High Court, on Tuesday, granted bail to former Member of Parliament Lovely Anand in the 1994 killing of Gopalganj District Magistrate G. Krishnaiah.
Lovely Anand, the wife of ex-MP Anand Mohan, was sentenced to life imprisonment by a lower court in Patna on October 3. Her husband, on the other hand, along with two others, was condemned to die by hanging in the same case.
Justice Shivkirti Singh and Justice S. M. Mahfooz Alam, after hearing the defense arguments presented by senior advocate Kanhaiya Prasad, granted bail to Lovely Anand, and put a stay on Rs. 25,000 bond earlier set by the lower court.
Due to time constraints however, Lovely Anand could not be freed from the Beur Jail on Tuesday night and now is expected to be released early Wednesday, authorities said.
Meanwhile, lawyers of Munna Shukla and Shashi Shekhar Thakur who were given life imprisonment in the same case, and the lawyer of Akhlaq Ahmed, one of the three men condemned to die, also filed petitions for bail that the court is likely to take up on Wednesday.
Anand Mohan's elder brother Madan Singh, who was also present during the bail hearing, expressed his pleasure over the court's decision.
