'Babu' Taking Bribe Arrested from Patna Secretariat
Patna: Oct. 9, 2007
Vigilance sleuths in Patna on Tuesday afternoon arrested Shailendra Kumar, the personal secretary of the Deputy Secretary, Education Department, from his office in New Secretariat while taking Rs. 2,000 in bribe from one Ranjit Kumar Chowdhary.
As reported, Chowdhary had tipped off the Vigilance Bureau of Kumar's demand of Rs. 8,000 in bribe for moving the pension papers of his father-in-law who retired last April from school principal's post.
The Vigilance team then planned to trap Kumar in action.
On Tuesday afternoon, as Chowdhary handed over Rs. 2,000 as the first installment of the 4-payment plan to Chowdhary, authorities moved in and took him into custody.
The incident caused a sensation in the Secretariat where several nervous 'babus' headed towards the nearest exit apprehending more arrests by the Vigilance Bureau.
