Jagannath Mishra Still Longs to Join Congress
Patna: Oct. 10, 2007
While attending the iftar party hosted by the Congress state president Sadanand Singh at Sadaqat Ashram in Patna on Wednesday, Janata Dal (U) leader and former Bihar Chief Minister Jagannath Mishra said he would consider coming back to his original party only if the Congress broke its ties with Lalu-led Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD).
"I am willing to come back to Congress and work towards strengthening the party if Congress is ready to break its ties with the RJD," Mishra said.
Mishra, while emphasizing the need of social and communal harmony, blamed the late Congress president Sitaram Kesri for his departure from the grand old party. "I have still not gotten over the way he treated me but because of him, I was forced to quit Congress Party," the former CM said.
Others attending the party included Central Minister Shakeel Ahmed, Congress leaders Dr. Ashok Kumar, Kishore Chandradeo, state Legislative chairperson Prof. Arun Kumar, Sanjeev Toni, RJD leader Shakeel Ahmed Khan, and Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) leader Izhar Ahmed.
JD-U leaders, including Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, have refrained from making any comments on Mishra's wish to join Congress.
