Lovely Anand Released from Jail; Munna Shukla, Shashi Shekhar Get Bail
Patna: Oct. 10, 2007
Hundreds of supporters of former MP and death row convict Anand Mohan, on Wednesday, gathered outside Patna's Beur Jail to receive his wife, also a former MP, Lovely Anand who was granted a bail on Tuesday by the Patna High Court in the lynching murder of Gopalganj District Magistrate G. Krishnaiah.
Lovely Anand, who was given life term for her role in the lynching case, walked out of the prison amidst media frenzy at around 3:45 pm. She was received by a number of her supporters who then drove her to the house of Akhlaq Ahmed, also awaiting his fate in the Beur Jail after receiving death sentence by the same court, to console his wife Shagufta Ahmed.
The two women who could not keep their emotions to themselves burst into tears while comforting each other and praying for their husbands acquittals.
From there, a visibly worn-out Lovely Anand headed to the house of Munna Shukla, yet another convict facing life imprisonment in the same case, where she learnt that Shukla and Shashi Shekhar Thakur, also serving life term in the DM lynching case, had been granted bail by the High Court.
The atmosphere there was anything but gloomy as Shukla and Thakur's family members and supporters shared sweets with each other to celebrate their freedom.
Lovely Anand then went straight to the Mahavir Temple at Patna Junction to pray for the freedom of her husband Anand Mohan and others still in jail awaiting rulings from the Patna High Court.
Talking to the media, Lovely Anand cursed the Nitish government saying the whole thing was a vast conspiracy hatched by certain Janata Dal (U) leaders and predicted the fall of NDA government in Bihar sooner than later.
"This is a war between truth and lies and I am confident that truth will prevail over lies and conspiracies," she said.
Lovely Anand also accused the government of torturing her in the prison. "I had to live with more than three dozen professional criminals. The food was lousy and I was allowed to meet with my husband only once," the former MP complained before leaving for Muzaffarpur where she is expected to meet with the family members of Arun Kumar, also a death penalty recipient in the same case.
