Chief Minister Responds to Lalu's Dare
Patna: Oct. 11, 2007
The rhetoric between Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav continued on Thursday with Kumar, reacting after Yadav's latest verbal assault on him and his government, said the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief was petrified by the looming snap polls at the Center and was, out of nervousness, uttering statements meant to mislead the people of Bihar.
"Mr. Yadav has lost control of himself. He is challenging me to hold mid-term polls in Bihar. He is forgetting that he had his shot at the government and that only made the matter worse. Now that the NDA is working hard to improve situation in the state, he is daring me to hold elections. Well, he will have to wait for his turn when we complete our term in five years," Kumar said.
Pooh-poohing Yadav's accusation of not providing lands for railway projects in Bihar, the Chief Minister said the NDA government had already been provided plenty of locations to the Railways but besides big talks and the customary land-breaking ceremonies, Yadav is yet to show anything that he means what he says.
Kumar also demanded to know whatever happened to the railway factory in Harnaut which was initiated by the former President Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam and for which land was already allocated.
"This shows Mr. Yadav is all talks but no substance," the Chief Minister said.
Kumar also blasted the RJD for coming in the way of developments in Bihar.
"Every time we try to do something good for the state, RJD activists start making protests on the street. When we tried to acquire land for sugar mills, it were the RJD men who opposed the plan that promises to provide job opportunities to thousands of men," he said.
