Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, his deputy Sushil Kumar Modi, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief and Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav were among some of the Bihar leaders who, on Thursday, paid homage to Loknayak Jai Prakash Narain on his birth anniversary while claiming themselves as the most ardent follower of the architect of the leader who led the '70s 'total revolution' against the then Indira Gandhi government leading to its eventual collapse.
While Kumar and Modi visited the Charkha Samiti in Kadam Kuan where the Loknayak had spent most of his adult life and the Income Tax roundabout where a life-size statue of the socialist leader provides encouragement to Bihar youths, the Railway Minister, in a low key affair, preferred to garland the statue of the leader at the party office.
Once again promising to fulfill the dreams of the Loknayak, Yadav said that most of the former followers of JP had abandoned his principles for the sole purpose of acquiring power in the state but the public was not oblivious to these facts.
"The people of Bihar would bring down any government that fails to work for the public," Yadav said of the ruling NDA government while not mentioning about his own party's defeat in the state a couple of years ago.
"Bihar today is in the clutches of communal elements but we are not going to sit tight and do nothing. That is why we have called for a rally in Patna later this month that would revolt against the Nitish government that has proven it to be ineffective on all fronts," Yadav said.
