Out on Bail, Lovely Anand Takes Aim at Nitish
Patna: Oct. 12, 2007
Just days after acquiring bail from the Patna High Court in the case involving lynching death of Gopalganj District Magistrate G. Krishnaiah, Lovely Anand, former MP, lashed out at the Nitish government saying now her goal was to expedite its collapse and get her and her husband's name cleared in the case.
"It was due to our support this government came into power in Bihar but now it has forgotten all that and picking and choosing cases to settle political scores against all those that is speaking out against this corrupt government," Lovely Anand, who was awarded life imprisonment in the DM lynching case, said at a press conference in Patna on Friday.
"We will take our case in the court of public opinion and are certain to be vindicated in the court of law as well," she said insisting both she and her husband and former MP Anand Mohan, who was condemned to die in the same case, were innocent.
"When my husband was arrested shortly after Krishnaiah murder, both Nitish Kumar and George Fernandes had come to see him in the jail saying my husband was the victim of a conspiracy. Ironically, now Nitish Kumar has also joined the conspirators," Lovely Anand said.
The Chief Minister has maintained that he, or any of his officials, had anything to do with the speedy trial court saying the court was only doing its job without any political pressure from any quarter.
