Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi, while kicking off the Ramlila function at Gandhi Maidan in Patna on Friday, said the NDA government was committed to bring 'Ram Rajya' in Bihar where 'people would live in peace and harmony' on the principles based on Lord Ram's life.
"Lord Ram was the most ideal man and an inspiration to all human beings transcending religious and philosophical beliefs. Today, more than ever, we must follow on the principles based on his life to bring peace and prosperity around the world," Modi said adding even Mahatma Gandhi desired of establishing Ram Rajya everywhere.
Urban Development Minister Ashwini Kumar Choubey showered the Patna Dussehra Committee for arranging Ram Lila in the state capital.
"Such events are a shot in the arms for all of us who sometimes forget that an unhappy population is a sure-shot prescription for hell," Choubey said.
The event started with the chanting of Vedic hymns and was attended by several prominent citizens of Patna including Art and Cultural Minister Janardan Singh Sigriwal, former DGP R. R. Prasad, and former ward councilor Sushma Sahu.
The reenactment of 'Lanka Dahan' would be held at 5:00 pm on October 21 followed by the symbolic killing of Ravan, Kumbhakaran, and Meghnad.
Earlier, devotees in Patna started the Navratra period by placing the 'kalash' at all puja sites amidst chanting of Durga hymns and sound of conch shells.
