Chief Secretary Denies any Wrongdoing in MBBS Admission Case
Patna: Oct. 14, 2007
Bihar Chief Secretary A. K. Chowdhary, on Sunday, debunked charges of irregularities in medical entrance test during his tenure as the state Health Commissioner in 1999 saying based on the agreement between the then Bihar government and TISCO and Laxmi Narain Trust, the admissions of four students were well within the norms that are being followed by medical colleges in Jharkhand even now.
"During the takeover of medical colleges in Jamshedpur and Dhanbad, the government had reached an agreement with TISCO and Lakshmi Narain Trust to admit four students on TISCO recommendations and three students on the Trust's reference. This practice is still being carried on by the Mahatma Gandhi Medical College in Jamshedpur and any accusation of irregularity against me is politically motivated and does not merit any further investigation," Chowdhary said.
As reported earlier, former Chief Secretary of Bihar V. S. Dubey has accused Chowdhary of promoting four 'non-deserving' candidates to medical courses in 1999.
"I raised my concerns with the Health Secretary but he chose to overlook it", Dubey recently told the media.
"While I don't remember any such incident, the joint method of the medical entrance tests back then could have raised some suspicions but that does not mean they are true," Chowdhary said.
