Patna: Oct. 16, 2007

Train robbers in Bihar hit again on Tuesday when five armed criminals robbed the passengers of 2316 Udaipur-Howrah Ananya Express between Kiul and Jha Jha and made away with cash and valuables to the tune of nearly Rs. 3 lakh, railway police in Patna confirmed.

At least five passengers were beaten up by the robbers resulting in substantial injuries to the victims.

All the injured passengers were administered first aid at Jha Jha and allowed to go.

Reports said the criminals entered into the train at around 1:15 pm and at gun and knife points, ordered the passengers to turn in their cash, mobile phones, jewelries, and other valuable items.

As the hapless victims followed robbers' orders, five men who showed signs of resistance, were beaten up by pistol butts causing extensive injuries to them. The criminals also fired several shot in the air to terrorize the passengers, the victims said.

Among the victims were also a number of tourists from Bangladesh who were ordered to hand over foreign currency as well.

As always, the railway police is investigating the case.
