Ravan Vadh on Sunday. Photo by Shashi UttamThe Dussehra Committee in Patna has invited Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi, and Urban Development Minister Ashwini Kumar Choubey, among other VIPs, for the ever-popular 'Slaying of Ravan' on the occasion of Durga Puja at Gandhi Maidan where the main event opens at 5:00 pm this Sunday.

Committee member Arun Kumar said the fireworks following the slaying of Ravan and his brothers Kumbhkaran and Meghnad would be extra special this year as requested by the Chief Minister last year.

The Ram procession would be taken out from the Naga Baba Thakurbari and would reach Gandhi Maidan after passing through Kadam Kuan, Nala Road, Machhua Toli, Dariapur, and Bakarganj, officials said.

The Chief Minister would receive the procession at Gandhi Maidan following which the 'burning of Lanka' would be staged to mark the slaying of evil king Ravan and his brothers.

Security throughout the event would be extra tight to prevent any disturbance, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kundan Krishnan said adding anyone found involved in robbery, eve-teasing, or other anti-social activities would be dealt with an iron hand.

Special parking arrangements and traffic routes have been marked to avoid intense traffic gridlocks, officials said.
