State Building Minister Monazir Hasan Bereaved

Abdul Qayyum, the father of state Building Construction Minister Dr. Monazir Hasan, died in Patna on Monday after prolonged illness related with old age. He was 80.

Leaders cutting across party lines eulogized the departed soul for his dedication to social justice and work towards poor and impoverished.

"He dedicated his life to raise voices against atrocities on backwards and minorities and he will be sorely missed by all," Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said in his message.

Railway Minister and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) president Lalu Prasad Yadav also described Mr. Qayyum a secular man with a keen sense of social justice. "We are extremely pained by the death of Mr. Qayyum and our heart goes out to his grieving family members," Yadav said in a statement.

Others who expressed similar sentiments included Minority Welfare Minister Manzar Alam, Sugarcane Minister Nitish Mishra, and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) state President Upendra Kushwaha.
