Security Tightened in Bihar following Giridih Massacre
Patna: Oct. 27, 2007
Security throughout Bihar, particularly at the Bihar-Nepal border, were stepped up in view of the Naxal-sponsored massacre in Giridih in Jharkhand state on Friday night in which at least 19 persons, including the son of Jharkhand MP Babulal Marandi and three women, were gunned down.
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, soon after his return from New Delhi on Saturday, held telephonic talks with his Jharkhand counterpart Madhu Koda and former CM Babulal Marandi whose son Anup Marandi was one of the 19 victims killed by the Maoist terrorists during a cultural show in Giridih.
Kumar said massive combing operations have been launched in Gaya, Nawada, and several places on the Bihar-Nepal border in an attempt to flush out domestic terrorists who are believed to have killed over 40,000 people in the state in last 15 years.
"There are some misguided people who are using violence to seize power in Bihar and Jharkhand. The government is committed to deal with such elements in any way possible," the Chief Minister said.
Kumar also announced Rs. 1 lakh each to the three victims in the last night violence who hailed from Jamui district in Bihar.
