Rally a Big Success, Says RJD Chief
Patna: Oct. 29, 2007
Continuing his anti-NDA tirade from Sunday's 'Chetawani Rally', Railway Minister and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) president Lalu Prasad Yadav, at a press conference on Monday, said the rally had successfully exposed the failure of the Nitish government and he 'did not need a certificate' from the NDA leaders to confirm whether or not the rally was a success.
There were roughly 5-7 lakh people in the rally, Yadav said while carefully staying away from mentioning his pre-rally claim of 30 lakh people.
"The people of Bihar have spoken. They are angry and ready to take the Chief Minister to task. So far all they have gotten from this government is hollow promises. We will no stage another rally that would send the Nitish government packing from power," the Railway Minister said.
Yadav shrugged off the NDA allegation that he had misused his power as the Railway Minister saying he was the minister and he had all the rights to use the MR special trains as he pleased.
The RJD chief also accused the Nitish government of trying to place hurdles in the organization of the rally in Patna.
"Rumors were spread that there were snakes in the old Bankipore Jail premises as a result of which the delegates chose not to stay there in spite of the fact that we paid Rs. 51,000 for its use," he said adding several vehicles were prevented from coming to Patna in the pretense of toll tax.
Yadav, despite photographic evidences, also denied that there were any 'launda nautch' during the entire rally period. "Cultural shows based on Bhikhari Thakur's plays were described as 'launda nautch' and that shows the mentality of this government," he said.
The RJD chief, however, admitted there were some dances by girls and promised to take stern actions against those who, despite his early warnings, engaged in such activities.
Meanwhile, the Bihar State Traders' Front, under the leadership of party-hopper Shankar Prasad Tekriwal, presented a mace to Yadav asking his blessing on the trader community of Bihar.
