Anand Mohan Appeals his Death Sentence

Patna: Oct. 31, 2007

Death row inmate and former Member of the Parliament Anand Mohan, on Wednesday, filed a petition with the Patna High Court challenging his death sentence in the 1994 lynching murder of the then District Magistrate of Gopalganj G. Krishnaiah calling the sentencing unjustifiable and delivered out of political vendetta.

The trial ignored some very important key facts that eventually led to the convictions of Anand Mohan and others in this case, said the former MP's attorney Ashutosh Singh in Patna on Wednesday.

The more than 100 pages-long appeal was filed with Patna High Court demanding overturning of the fast track court verdict that sent Mohan, former MLAs Arun Kumar and Akhlaq Ahmed, and gave Mohan's wife and former MP Lovely Anand, legislator Munna Shukla, Shashi Shekhar and Harendra Kumar to life imprisonment in the Krishnaiah lynching case.

All the life-imprisonment recipients since then have been released on bail while Anand Mohan, Arun Kumar, and Akhlaq Ahmed remain incarcerated at Patna's Beur Jail.
