CBI Moves Supreme Court in Lalu-Rabri Acquittal Case

New Delhi: Oct. 31, 2007

Insisting that the state government was acting outside its jurisdiction, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), on Wednesday, moved the Supreme Court challenging the Nitish government's motion in Patna High Court against acquittals of the Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav and his wife and former Bihar Chief Minister Rabri Devi in the Disproportionate Asset (DA) case.

"The move of the state to challenge the CBI court verdict is extra-constitutional and must be thrown out without further delay," said a senior CBI official in New Delhi.

As reported before, the Patna High Court, on September 20, admitted the state government's plea challenging the CBI court's verdict that had earlier exonerated the Lalu-Rabri duo in the DA case, an offshoot of the multi-crore rupees fodder scam of the '90s.
