CM Flags off Livestock Feed for Flood Areas
Patna: Sept. 1, 2007
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Saturday flagged off 11 trucks of livestock feed totaling 33 tons for cattle affected by the great flood of 2007 that has killed over 500 human lives and counting and an undetermined number of domestic and farm animals in Bihar.
The relief, the first batch in a series of many, was sponsored by the Bihar Chamber of Commerce. Officials said relief materials would be distributed absolutely free of cost and complete transparency would be maintained to ensure the items reach to those who need and not end up in retail market by some unscrupulous official.
Kumar said more relief was on its way from Punjab after he appealed to his Punjab counterpart Prakash Singh Badal to help ease flood impact in Bihar.
"Three racks of livestock feed have been dispatched by the Badal government which would go directly to Samastipur, Darbhanga, and Khagaria," the CM said while appealing to all to pitch in without concerns for political preferences or personal grudges.
The event organized at the CM's official residence at 1 Anne Marg in Patna was also attended by the Chamber president O. P. Sah, former president Yugeshwar Pandey, Moti Lal Khaitan and a few government officials.
