RJD Chief Foresees Collapse of Nitish Government
Patna: Sept. 2, 2007
Minutes after sharing the same platform with Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, staunch political adversary and Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav, at a press meet in Patna on Sunday, predicted the demise of NDA government in Bihar, sooner rather than later, saying the infighting within the Janata Dal (U) was enough to bring down the Nitish government.
"JD-U is on fire right now. Party members have formed a parallel leadership and constitution but even then the NDA leaders are blaming me for causing a split in the organization," Yadav said with the same sarcasm he is well known for.
"If Upendra Kushwaha (the disgruntled JD-U leader) elects a new party leader with the consent of 30 other legislators, the Chief Minister will be forced to quit and a new leader will have to take up his position thus bringing an end to the so-called 'Sushasan Babu's rule'," the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief said what appeared to be a veiled advice to the dissident JD-U leader.
"When similar anti-party activities were taking in RJD, I got rid of Ranjan Yadav," the Railway Minister said which once again, appeared to be an advice to Upendra Kushwaha to get rid of Nitish Kumar.
The Railway Minister said his party was preparing a booklet on all the announcements made under the Nitish government and what the government had done so far to follow up on them.
Hinting at the recent police brutality case in Bhagalpur, Yadav said minorities in Bihar were being tortured under the current regime, young men were being subjected to police brutality, and 'a female vigilante was on a crusade to check corruptions' in the state - a reference to Rekha Modi, the sister of Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi, who was in news recently for taking the Patna Medical College Hospital (PMCH) officials to task.
