LPG Gas Scam Unearthed; One Arrested
Patna: Sept. 2, 2007
The Kankarbagh police in Patna on Sunday busted an elaborate ring of cooking gas black-marketers who had been buying out LPG cylinders from various agencies on fake names and IDs while denying the genuine consumers of their quota of LPG cylinders, officials in Kankarbagh said.
As reported, based on some anonymous tips, a police team led by Kankarbagh police station in-charge Ramakant Prasad raided a house on Road Number 4 in Indira Nagar and recovered 59 filled and empty gas cylinders, over 250 fake gas cards, hundreds of photographs of unsuspecting consumers, application forms and other documents.
The police arrested one of the gang members Premchand while other suspect in the case Sunil Kumar managed to escape from the police dragnet.
During the interrogation, Premchand admitted obtaining photographs of people by colluding with several photo studios in Patna including Kajal Studio near Chiraiyantand Bridge and another studio in Jakkanpur.
The gas cards recovered during the raid were issued by a number of gas agencies in Patna including Shaheed Ganesh Agency, Awadh Raj Agency, Anamika Gas Agency, Rashmi Rathi, MS Indane Services, Aniruddha Gas Services, Jaishree Agency, and Rajdhani Enterprises indicating strong possibility of involvement of these shop owners with the mastermind of the gang, the police said.
