Ghazal Singer Performs for Flood Victims

Noted ghazal singer Shankar Sagar, at a function organized at the IMA Hall in Patna on Monday, kept the audience asking for more with his extremely skilled vocal intricacies while singing songs from yesteryears once again establishing that there was no substitute for good ghazals and a voice that could match the likes of Rafi, Talat, Jagjeet, or Ghulam Ali.
For two and a half hours without stop, Sagar swept the audience with various emotional moods by making them laugh and cry as he sang ghazals from the '40s, '50s all the way to the '90s.
Songs like 'Ganga ke jal ko dhal na dena sharaab mein', Tapti dhoop ke saaye mein', 'Raat bhar Tanha', and other ghazals by Ghulam Ali, Menhdi Hassan, Jagjeet Singh, Pankaj Udhas, Anup Jalota, Chandan Das, Lata Mangeshkar, and Talat Aziz were enough to whet the appetite of even the most passionate ghazal fans as demonstrated by the audience applause after each couplet.
The event was organized by the Bihar Lokjiwan and Locent Senior Secondray for the benefit of the flood victims in Bihar with Sagar himself donating Rs. 5,000 from his paycheck.
Former Chief Minister and Janata Dal (U) leader Jagannath Mishra and Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and Road Construction Minister Nand Kishore Yadav jointly inaugurated the event.
