Lalu's Sympathy for Kushwahas Fake; Says JD-U Leader
Patna: Sept. 3, 2007
Taking a dig at the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) president Lalu Prasad Yadav for showing 'faked sympathy' for Janata Dal (U) dissident leader Upendra Kushwaha and offering him veiled advice on how to bring down the Nitish government, JD-U legislator Bhagwan Singh Kushwaha, on Monday, asked the Railway Minister to explain what he had done for the Kushwaha community when he and his wife were in power in Bihar.
"Suddenly Laluji is showing unprecedented sympathy for the Kushwaha samaj. I would like him to tell us what he had done for this community during his party's 15-year of rule in Bihar. Just so he remembers it, over 1700 political activists from Kushwaha community were murdered during the Lalu-Rabri regime. Not only the families of these victims were never compensated, the administration failed to nab even a single person in these cases," Kushwaha alleged.
Daring the RJD chief to present senior RJD leader Shakuni Chowdhary as the next Chief Ministerial candidate, Kushwaha said if Lalu was not willing to do so then he should stop shedding crocodile tears over the plight of Kushwaha community.
Kushwaha further said that the notorious Lalbabu Yadav gang had the full support of a senior RJD central minister who, besides offering protection to this gang, also supplied illegal arms to its members.
"This same gang is responsible for the brutal murders of four Kushwaha children in Bhojpur district but till today, not a single member of Lalbabu Yadav gang was caught and prosecuted," the JD-U leader said.
"The Railway Minister professes to be the champion of the Kushwaha community but the fact is that during the last Assembly elections, the RJD gave tickets to only four Kushwaha candidates whereas the JD-U gave tickets to 17. All this sudden sympathy for the Kushwahas by the RJD leader is nothing more than a shrewd, calculated political move to divide this community for political gains," Bhagwan Kushwaha said.
