RJD Leaders on Dharna against Nitish Government
Patna: Sept. 3, 2007
Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leaders at Kargil Chowk in Patna on Monday staged a day-long dharna to protest against the Nitish government accusing it of not doing enough for the flood victims in Bihar and failing to spend Rs. 678 crore obtained from the Central Emergency Fund for flood relief operations in the state.
Party general secretary and the Member of Parliament, Ramkripal Yadav lashed out at the NDA government for not providing relief to flood victims in Patna district by refusing to admit that Patna was also in the clutches of the great flood of 2007.
"Hundreds of thousands of people in Naubatpur, Danapur, Khusrupur, Fatuha, Dulhin Bazaar, Pali, and Sampatchak are reeling from the impact of flood but this government continues to maintain that these areas are not affected by flood," Yadav said adding Nitish government was anti-farmers and hence their neglect by this administration.
Yadav also blasted the government for failing to rid Patna from water-logging saying several areas in the city were still under rain water but the government was paying no heed to it.
Shyam Rajak, party national general secretary, said the NDA government was defrauding the people of Bihar by not spending Rs. 678 crore in Central Emergency Fund.
Ghulam Gaus, the leader of the opposition in the state legislature, said the NDA government was blind and deaf to the needs of farmers and dalits in Bihar and was 'too busy making announcements on papers'.
