Patna: Sept. 5, 2007
A high-level central team of bureaucrats on Wednesday left for various flood-affected districts in Bihar to evaluate the extent of damage caused by the flood of 2007 after holding a meeting with the top state administrators.
The team would survey nine districts in Bihar including Patna, Muzaffarpur, Samastipur, Darbhanga, Khagaria, Madhubani, Bettia, and Begusarai over next three days and collect data to be later presented to the Union government that would then determine the amount of fund to be given to the state to compensate and rehabilitate the flood victims in the state.
After going through a PowerPoint presentation by Bihar Chief Secretary A. K. Chowdhary detailing the extent of devastation caused by the flood, the central team agreed the situation was precarious in Bihar's flood-hit areas and the Center must act fast to provide relief to the victims.
The central team consisted of Home Ministry joint secretary Asim Khurana, Planning Commission deputy advisor Gopal Prasad, Road Traffic and Highway department senior official Rajiv Singh, Health and Family Welfare Ministry official Swasti Charan, Energy Ministry's Anjali Chandra, Agriculture Ministry official M.
