Government-owned Vehicle Destroyed in Fire. Photo by Shashi UttamA government vehicle owned by the Electricity Vigilance cell was completely destroyed on Wednesday when it caught fire on Bailey Road near Patna Women's College causing a commotion in the area.

By the time the fire tenders arrived at the spot, the Maruti Gypsy had burnt beyond recognition leaving only the charred structure later removed by a tow truck.

According to the report, the car was occupied by the vigilance officer B. N. Rai and his driver and Constable Uday Shankar Rai who were on their way to the Patna High Court.

Near Patna Women's College, the driver noticed some smoke coming out of the engine. Not realizing the seriousness of the problem, Rai got off the vehicle and took a walk to the High Court leaving the car in care of his driver.

The driver also then left the car on the street to look for a mechanic. However, within minutes the entire vehicle was in flames and though the fire officials tried to douse the fire, the damage was so extensive that there was nothing left for them to save.
