Students of various schools and colleges in Patna on Wednesday celebrated the Teachers' Day by honoring their own teachers and organizing cultural events designed to appreciate their mentors who, despite low pays and miniscule benefits, do tremendous job in preparing the youths to take on their future.

At a function held at Sri Krishna Memorial Hall, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar honored nine teachers from Bihar but expressed his disappointment for not finding even one female teacher in the list.

"It is absolutely appalling that not a single female teacher has been nominated for these awards. This must not happen again and for this if we have to raise the numbers of awards, that would be perfectly fine with me," said the Chief Minister

Human Resources Minister Brishan Patel and Education Secretary Madan Mohan Jha also spoke on the occasion.

At Patna Women's College, students organized a dance and song show and honored 8 teachers to express their gratitude towards them.

Magadh Mahila College also organized its own cultural show while honoring their teachers as well.

In an event held at Wheeler Senate Hall where the Patna University Vice Chancellor Dr. Y.C. Simadri honored noted historian R. S. Sharma, Psychology professor Dr. Aslam Ahmed, Geography professor Dr. A. Dayal, Geology professor Dr. R. C. Sinha, and Chemistry professor Dr. J. N. Chatterjee for their outstanding contributions in the field of academia.

Similar functions were held at B. D. Evening College, Arvind Mahila College, College of Commerce, A. N. College, and TPS College.
