Three Patna Restaurants Busted

Patna: Sept. 6, 2007

Excise sleuths in Patna on Thursday conducted raids at three prominent restaurants in the state capital and seized a number of commercial and domestic cooking gas cylinders allegedly purchased in the black market, officials in Patna said.

The raiding team consisting of Excise officials and Indian Oil and Hindustan Petroleum executives first raided the hugely popular Vanshi Vihar Restaurant on Frazer Road and recovered 12 commercial and 4 domestic LPG cylinders that they said were bought in the black market.

When asked to show documentations to prove the cylinders were in fact obtained in a legal way, the restaurant could come up with papers for only one of the commercial cylinders.

The fact that 4 of the cylinders were meant for domestic use and are banned for any commercial utilization, the proprietors of Vanshi Vihar could be in more trouble than they had actually bargained for, officials said.

Next stop, Family Fair Restaurant also on Frazer Road where the raiding team recovered 3 cylinders with no paper work to show for.

Finally, the Excise team raided the Soda Fountain Restaurant near Gandhi Maidan where they found four commercial-grade cylinders without any document or proof of purchase.

Legal actions all three restaurants are expected in a day or two, officials said.
