Sadaqat Ashram Ex-Employees Continue their Protest
Patna: Sept. 6, 2007
The sacked employees of Congress state headquarters at Sadaqat Ashram in Patna on Thursday continued their dharna at the Ashram while blasting the party state president Sadanand Singh for relieving them from their services on flimsy grounds.
The leader of the group Vashisht Deo Tiwari, while talking to the media, said they were given the pink slips on the ground that the party could not afford their salaries anymore whereas the fact was that Sadanand Singh was paying salaries to those who were not even the employees of Sadaqat Ashram.
"Each month the party gets Rs. 2.25 lakh from Delhi besides Rs. 25,000 from Muzaffarpur. Yet, we were told that there was no money to pay our salaries," Tiwari said alleging Singh had hired nine personal staff who were not even party members or had contributed in the spreading of the party philosophy and principles.
"We have dedicated our lives to the ideals of the party. Some of us were even offered party tickets in the late fifties but we chose to be the party flag-bearers by remaining in the background," said yet another former employee Mohammed Farukh.
The group said it would meet with Digvijay Singh, Congress general secretary of Bihar, on Friday and lodge a complaint against Sadanand Singh while demanding reinstatement of their jobs.
