Senior Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and former minister Ramdeo Mahto, after remaining in a state of coma for over a month at a private nursing home in Patna, died on Thursday leaving behind his wife and eight grown-up children.

Mahto, 80, would be cremated with full state honors on Friday, it was learnt.

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi, along with other NDA leaders, paid their respect to the departed soul at the state Assembly building calling Mahto a true nationalist and a man of integrity and honesty.

Mahto first won a seat in Bihar Assembly in 1967 on Jan Sangh ticket and later played a prominent role in the JP movement in 1974.

Later, he went on to occupy various important positions under the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP).
