Patna: Sept. 6, 2007

SFI Takes out Rally in Patna. Photo by Shashi UttamActivists of Students Federation of India, a students' group with heavy tilt on the left, on Thursday in Patna, took out a rally to press for their 11-point demands including no tuition for students in flood-hit areas, stop on private educational institutes, ban on privatization, and holding of students' union elections at all Bihar universities.

The rally began at Gandhi Maidan and headed towards the Governor's House only to be stopped at R-Block crossing where the rally turned into a public meeting.

Threatening to intensify their stir, the students accused the police of firing at flood victims and 'trying to crush the voice of the people'.

Naresh Kumar, the state president of the union, said if their demands were not accepted in their totality, the union would hold a state-wide protest on September 28.
