Bomb on Railway Track Recovered; Diffused

Patna: Sept. 7, 2007

Thanks to an alert Railway Protection Force (RPF) jawan, the railway police on Friday neutralized a bomb placed on the tracks between Platform No. 2 and 3 of the Ara railway station thus averting a disaster that could have impacted the Patna-Delhi Shramjeevi Express that was to pass the station within minutes after the bomb was discovered.

Railway officials said during a routine check of the tracks on Friday, RPF inspector H. P. Yadav noticed a round object on the track on which Shramjeevi Express was to pass just moments later.

On closer inspection, Yadav recognized the object and informed railway officials at Ara who sprung into action and ordered a complete halt on all traffic on that line.

Bomb experts were then brought in who successfully managed to diffuse the explosive. Railway traffic was then allowed to resume.

The railway police is investigating the case. Involvement of Naxalites has not been ruled out, Government Railway Police in-charge Akhilendra Kumar Singh said.
