Students of Magadh Mahila College in Patna on Saturday took out a rally around Gandhi Maidan to mark the World Literacy Day demanding education for all and better academic environment for everyone in Bihar irrespective of one's economic and social status.

The rally was flagged off by the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) MP Ram Kripal Yadav who said education for all should be the prime goal of the government and despite substantial improvement in the academic climate in Bihar in the last few years; the state still had a long way to go in achieving its target.

Meanwhile, at Patna Women's College, students carrying placards of 'education for all' formed a human chain to mark the World Literacy Day.

More than 200 children from Patna slums participated in the event. College principal Sister Doris DeSouza, Dr. Pushpa Sinha, and Poonam Kumari addressed the children and appealed to them to join their neighborhood schools if they wished to better their chances of a better future.

Food packets were also distributed among the children.
