JD-U Legislator Roughs up Land Development Bank Director

Patna: Sept. 11, 2007

An out of control Janata Dal (U) legislator from Vikramganj and his henchmen, on Tuesday, entered into the Bihar State Land Development Bank on Buddha Marg in Patna and beat up its Managing Director Suryadeo Mehta sending him to a local hospital.

As reported, Vikramganj legislator Jai Kumar Singh, with about half a dozen of his hired goons, barged into the office of Mehta and engaged in an altercation over the choice of the candidate for the post of presidency of the Bank following the death of its previous president Ajit Singh.

Mehta, while talking to the police from a hospital on Gardener Road, said Singh handed him over his mobile phone and asked him to talk to JD-U MP Prabhunath Singh prior to holding the pre-election meeting.

As he fumbled with the phone, Singh and his men allegedly assaulted him and showered him with verbal abuse.

By the time a Kotwali police team along with a Special Auxiliary Police (SAP) force arrived at the bank, Singh and his goon had left the premises, Kotwali police station in-charge.

Charges were filed against the JD-U legislator and six of his men, the police said.
