State Highway Work to Begin in October
Patna: Sept. 13, 2007
After much delay, the hurdles in developing state highways in Bihar have been removed as the differences between the state and central government were finally ironed out and work on these 2-lane highways would begin later next month, officials in Patna said on Thursday.
The stalemate over the sharing of works between the two companies - IRCON and CPWD – and the government came to an end when officials said an understanding was reached between the state and central government to allow the construction companies to begin their work on 2036 kilometers of state highway in Bihar.
The work is expected to be completed by 2009, officials at the Road Construction department said.
A visibly elated Road Construction Minister Nand Kishore Yadav said the central government under the National Development Plan had earmarked Rs. 3,000 crore for the development of Bihar highways with the CPWD agreeing to complete 1705 kilometers of roads and the IRCON being responsible for the remainder of the 2036 kilometers.
