Govt. offers Free Education to the Teen Heroine

Patna: Sept. 15, 2007

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, like millions of others impressed and moved by the heroic deed of the 15-year old Farzana who, a couple of days ago, risked her own life and saved 5 persons including a woman and three children from drowning in Purnia district, ordered free education for the little Superman calling her a real-life hero.

Officials in Patna on Saturday said the government has recognized the bravery and courage of Farzana and has offered her free education as part of the reward announced by the Nitish government.

Farzana, a school dropout and the daughter of Jameel Ahmed, last Thursday, jumped into the river where a boat carrying 12 people and two motorcycles had turned over dumping all of its occupants in the water.

While five men were able to swim back to safety, young Farzana, like an expert lifesaver, was able to rescue five others including a woman, three children, and an overweight man - one person at a time.
